Elizabeth Ailes, who is listed as the owner and publisher of both papers, is married to Roger Ailes, the former CEO of Fox News who retired after being accused of sexual harassment by several employees.

Terms of the sale, set to close this week, were not disclosed, said the Courier.

Cunningham, who joined the company in 2011 after two decades at the Middletown Times Herald-Record in Orange County, said both newspapers are in good shape financially, added the Courier.

The paper reported Mrs. Ailes owned the Philipstown PCNR for eight years and the Courier for seven years.

She is also known for launching CNBC, and America’s Talking. Locally, she worked to expand the paper's coverage of breaking news and their growth into the social media arena, said the Courier.

Cunningham, a graduate of the William Allen White School of Journalism at the University of Kansas, also serves on the board of directors of the New York Press Association.
