After nine years of various plans, Lowe's held a ceremonial groundbreaking at its new 120,663 square foot location at 3200 Crompond Road in Yorktown Heights.

"Welcome to Yorktown for a day that has been years in the making," said Yorktown Town Supervisor Michael Grace. "We are cutting through the red tape to get shovels in the ground for great projects like this one. This groundbreaking will have a significant effect on Yorktown's future and the future of Westchester County as well."

The project, developed by Breslin Realty Development Corp. will also include a 25,448 square foot garden center, a 7,600 square foot restaurant, a 4,500 square foot restaurant and a 4,000 square foot bank. Initially, a Costco was proposed for the site, but plans fell through.

The construction job is expected to 380 temporary full-time jobs. Once completed in Nov. 2018, there will be 150-180 permanent jobs.
