Houses On The Moon Theatre Company Presents Preview Of Show In Carmel

CARMEL, N.Y. -- Houses on the Moon Theatre Company will bring storytellers and performers to Arts on the Lake, for a preview of its new show, “gUN COUNTRY” at 640 Route 52, Lake Carmel, on Saturday, Oct. 25, at 8 p.m.

Based in Manhattan, Houses on the Moon is noted for its documentary work. A previous production was “De Novo,” the true story of a fourteen-year-old Guatemalan’s legal struggle to stay in the United States.

“In its present form, ‘gUN COUNTRY’ is something like The Moth Radio Hour, except all the stories are from people whose lives have been touched by guns," said James Shearwood, theatre program director at Arts on the Lake,

No stranger to storytelling, Jeffrey Solomon, one of the directors of Houses on the Moon, has been a Grand Slam Winner on "The Moth" – the National Public Radio program that features live storytelling.

"Working with co-director Emily Weiner, the process now is the pairing of a professional artist with a community member to develop the stories further,” said Solomon.

At a tryout at the Hudson (N.Y.) Opera House earlier this month, “gUN COUNTRY” stories left an audience in “tears. passion and thoughtful discussion” said Shearwood.

Houses on the Moon’s appearance at Arts on the Lake is the result of a collaboration with SPACE on Ryder Farm where part of “gUN COUNTRY” was developed this summer.

Tickets for Houses on the Moon at Arts on the Lake are $12 ($2 discount for Arts on the Lake members and students) and may be purchased at http://www.artsonthelake.org or by calling 845-228-2685.
