The day commemorates the date of William Shakespeare's death in 1616.

From 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. there will be activities geared toward kids ages three to 11 at The Butterfield Library, 10 Morris Ave. in Cold Spring featuring interactive reading of adapted stories, The Tempest and The Sword in the Stone.

This program melds performance and workshop with its highly interactive approach to two classic storie and mask-making workshops where kids will have the chance to make a mask based on a character from a Shakespeare play or from their imagination. This will be followed by a short, interactive theater game using their mask.

From 1 to 2:45 p.m. will be activities geared toward kids ages 12 and older at Haldane Jr. High School, 15 Craigside Dr. in Cold Spring. This will feature performance of HVSF’s School Touring Production, A Midsummer Night’s Dream. This abridged production has been staged specifically for an all-ages audience and will include a talkback with the cast following the show.

From 3 to 4 p.m. will be activities geared toward kids ages 13 and older at St. Mary-in-the-Highlands featuring clowning and improvisation workshops with HVSF Company member, Zachary Fine and no prior experience necessary.

Other things to do on World Shakespeare Day include visiting the HVSF Office at 143 Main St. in Cold Spring to meet the staff and guest artists, enter a raffle or buy tickets to the 2016 summer season. Visit HVSF World Shakespeare Day partners and enjoy discounts.

Partners include A Twist of Fate Salon, Archipelago at Home, Bijou Galleries, LTD, Burkelman, C+E Paint Cold Spring Antiques Center, Cold Spring Pizza, The Country Goose, The Country Touch, Indigo Chic, Old Souls, The Silver Spoon, Swing, Vintage Finds. Reservations are recommended.
