BREWSTER, N.Y. -- Ready to scare up some fun for Halloween?

Check out the 14th annual Brewster Yard Haunt where 10 residents in the Wells Woods neighborhood have created a haunted area like no other. Aside from the more than 70 tombstones, you'll find a doll house of doom, mad scientist laboratory, torture chamber area, and other creepy scenes -- the majority of which have been made by hand by assorted neighbors over the years.

The group includes Laurie Manning, Kevin Kennedy, Michelle Piniella, Brent Sears, Morgan Sears, Karen Anias, Frank Gilliland and Barb McViegh. According to Manning, they do it because they're "goofy grownups." And, because they find it fun.

There's a one upmanship every year as the displays shift and change and the group tries to challenge themselves with new items.

Admission is free, though the group does a "Cans for Candy" drive, inviting ghosts and goblins of all ages to bring canned food or other non-perishables for donation to the local food pantry.

The 14th Annual Brewster Yard Haunt begins at 4 p.m. and goes until 10 p.m on Monday, Oct. 31. See details on their Facebook page: www.facebook.com/pg/byh2013/ .

The group makes accommodations for little ones who may be afraid -- so don't fear, folks. "Halloween is meant to be fun," said Manning. "We recognize that not everyone may want to be scared."
