PUTNAM VALLEY, N.Y. -- If you're interested in raising a chicken for a pet or flock of poultry, a workshop will cover the basics Saturday, Oct. 1 in Putnam Valley.

This Putnam Valley Grange backyard farming presentation will cover how to care for chicken on any size property. There will be an opportunity to purchase chickens to take home.

Topics include how to start chicks successfully, coop designs, predators and deterrents, types of feeds and supplements to keep chickens healthy, and local regulations regarding keeping chickens on residential property.
