In front of the Putnam County Courthouse in Carmel on Wednesday, Tendy announced he is seeking the Republican nomination for Putnam County District Attorney. The election is in November 2016.

Tendy had told Daily Voice, that he was intending on running against incumbent Adam Levy.

"We need to restore integrity, faith, organization, and professionalism to the office of the district attorney," Tendy said. "I will personally go to court and be part of the county prosecution team, I will not solely be an administrator."

Tendy has practiced criminal law for 25 years and previously worked in the Manhattan District Attorney's Office prosecuting everything from larcenies to drug sales to gang violence and even art thefts.

If elected, Tendy said he would implement an online traffic diversion safety course for people who receive speeding tickets for the first time. Once the course is a completed, for a fee, the speeding ticket will be dismissed.

"This will improve driver safety, bring revenue to the county and keep insurance rates low," Tendy said.

A cloud of suspicion has been hanging over Levy and his office for too long, Tendy said.

"This is unfair to the hardworking assistant district attorneys and to law enforcement agencies in our county," Tendy said. "It is unfair to our residents. This has to change. I pledge to restore integrity and trust to the position. I promise to remember that I serve the people, not myself."

In a statement, Levy said he was proud of his record.

"My office has vigorously pursued justice and the equal enforcement of the law every day," Levy said. "I look forward to talking about my record of making Putnam County a safer place to live by attacking heroin crisis, reducing the number of drunk driving arrests and preventing domestic abuse."

Tendy has his own criminal law practice in Poughkeepsie and was elected Putnam Valley supervisor in 2007.
