The celebration included an afternoon parade on Main Street, with participants including firefighters, elected officials, kids with bikes decorated in patriotic attire and several canine guests who were part of what was called "The Philipstown Patriotic Dog Brigade."
A large crowd gathered along the waterfront following the parade, as competition results were announced for both kids on bikes and for dogs. The gathering also served as time for song and dance.
Speaking at the waterfront gathering, Cold Spring Mayor Dave Merandy read a proclamation thanking war veterans and praised the decisions made by America's forefathers and those who came after to help the nation.
“This is a great nation," Merandy said. "Happy birthday, America.”
Several musical acts performed at the waterfront gazebo and at nearby Dockside Park.
The festivities were capped off that night with a roaring fireworks display; a packed crowd gathered along the waterfront for the finale.
