PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. -- Gov. Andrew Cuomo has issued a state of emergency for Putnam County and most of the Hudson Valley and implemented a full travel ban in Putnam and 12 other counties as a powerful Nor'easter continues to dump snow.

After earlier issuing a tractor trailer ban on Interstates 87 and 84, Cuomo also placed the full travel ban on roads and bridges and suspension of public transit effective at 11 p.m. Monday.

Cuomo also directed non-essential state workers in the New York City area to stay home on Tuesday.

The National Weather Service is forecasting up to two feet of snow and wind gusts that may exceed 55 mph.
