The work on the two bridges, which cross Wappinger Creek, came in on time and under budget, according to the Dutchess County Department of Public Works.
Degarmo Road, which averages more than 10,000 vehicles per day, was one of the most significant projects in scope of work, officials said.
“Our DPW Engineering Division team continues to work industriously to ensure our road projects are completed on schedule and within or under budget," said Dutchess County Executive Marc Molinaro. "I thank our employees at DPW and our contractor partners for working tirelessly over the last several months to provide needed bridge improvements for motorists traveling on this busy roadway. I appreciate the patience of our residents as DPW works to complete several road and bridge projects throughout the county before year’s end."
The bridge rehabilitation work began in April and involved the replacement of existing bridge beams and decks, modification of abutments, installation of scour protection and the addition of new bridge rail. Both bridges maintained 12-foot lanes and 4-foot shoulders and were raised about 4 feet to allow for greater clearance under the bridges during significant storms.
The total cost for the project was $2.6 million.
