Deskovic Lists Putnam Detective's Actions In Coercion Trial

PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. -- Jeffrey Deskovic testified in federal court on Tuesday, Oct. 21, giving his version of what happened when Putnam County Investigator Daniel Stephens allegedly coerced him into falsely confessing to the rape and murder of a 15-year old girl in 1989, according to LoHud.com.

Deskovic claimed that Stephens yelled at him for hours and promised he would be sent to a mental hospital instead of serving jail time, LoHud.com reported.

When Deskovic confessed, he claimed he made up the story using facts that had been fed to him by investigators for weeks and did so out of emotional distress, LoHud.com said.

While Stephens didn't take the confession, Deskovic was convicted of murder and served 16 years before DNA evidence exonerated him of the crime, according to LoHud.com.
