Egg-Price Rise Hits 30-Year High Due To Bird Flu Outbreak

PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. – Bird flu is being cited as the reason why the price of eggs jumped 20 percent from May to June, according to ABC 7 News.

ABC 7 reported that it was the largest month-to- month jump since 1985.

Geese and ducks migrating to the Midwest's poultry farm and leaving droppings was cited as the main reason egg-laying hens were being infected with the disease.

Estimates put the number of affected hens at 40 million, an eighth of the nationwide hen population. ABC 7 noted.
