Motorists are advised that, as part of the ongoing bridge construction, all lanes of a stretch of Route 55 in Ulster County will be closed for approximately four months.
The closure, between Sportsman Road and Continental Drive, in the town of Wawarsing, is expected to start on Monday, April 17 at noon, so crews may perform construction activities.
The bridge is expected to reopen to all traffic in August 2017.
A signed detour will be in place and motorists should follow it, but expect delays, according to the New York Department of Transportation.
Drivers are asked to use caution when traveling through the work zone area and pay particular attention to all traffic control devices, including signs and flaggers.
Motorists are reminded that fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone. In accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of an individual’s driver license.
