Brian Sacher, 1st Assistant Chief with the Mahopac Falls Volunteer Fire Department, believes the home, in a neighborhood near Lake Secor, will have to be demolished.

“The house is going to be a total loss," he said in describing its condition. Sacher also noted that there was damage on both floors.

The Fire Department was dispatched to the house at 72 Entrance Way, at 2:10 p.m., Sacher recalled, describing there being "heavy fire on our arrival.”

Sacher also discussed the difficulty that the firefighters faced, including with the blaze's intensity and the fact that the stairs to the second floor were burned at the first floor.

“We had to pull the guys out at one point," Sacher said about the firefighting response.

It took about two hours to get the fire under control, Sacher added. The cause of the fire is under investigation, the assistant chief explained.

A male resident of the home was injured, according to Sacher, and was taken to Putnam Hospital Center in Carmel. However, the man only sustained a minor injury. The resident's son got out safely and no firefighters were injured, according to Sacher.

The fire severely damaged the siding of a home next door. Sacher said that four residents from the neighboring home have been temporarily displaced. The assistant chief also noted that the other home has no electricity due to an outside electrical meter having been melted by the fire.

Mutual aid to Mahopac Falls was provided from neighboring fire departments, according to Sacher, including help at the scene from Mahopac, Putnam Valley and Mohegan, with Somers on standby at Mahopac Falls' firehouse. Additionally, TransCare's EMS was on scene.
