Kent Gets Ready To Battle Algae Invaders At Lake Carmel

KENT, N.Y. -- Knowing that blue-green algae can make a mess of any lake and ruin things for swimmers, the Kent Town Board is preparing to head the slimy invaders off at the pass, according to a report by The Examiner News.

Lake Carmel's blue waters may look inviting in this photo, but come June they may be invaded by blobs of blue-green algae. The town of Kent is getting ready to treat the lake if the organisms rear their ugly heads this summer.

The board voted recently to apply for state permits to treat Lake Carmel with either copper sulfate or Cutrine Plus, The Examiner News reported.

The chemicals can’t be used until the pesky organisms actually make an appearance, but the town wants to be ready before the swimming season starts in June, The Examiner News story said.
