Youths from the Lake Carmel department joined dozens of junior firefighters from across New York state to take part in the Aug. 21 events to gain hands-on firefighter training. The junior firefighters practiced search-and-rescue drills, hose advancement, fire pump and drafting operations, and more.
Youth Day showcases the future of New York’s fire service and highlights the need for more young people to join their local volunteer fire departments. Participating were dozens of junior firefighters and Explorers, ages 12-19; seasoned fire department instructors; volunteer first responders; and FASNY leaders.
Founded in 1872, FASNY represents the interests of the more than 92,000 volunteer firefighters and emergency medical personnel in New York state.
