The goal of the event was to assist the coalition in a community assessment. The leaders were from different sectors of the community. The National Guard assisted the coalition in the creation of a survey that will provide a snapshot of the community and the problems young people face when it comes to substance abuse.

With their input and several other assessment activities, the coalition now will be able to effectively address those problems. Substance abuse among young people does not discriminate; it is present throughout Putnam County, as well as the rest of the state and nation.

The Philipstown CTC coalition was formed to address those issues and do something about it. If you live in Philipstown and wish to help in this effort, there will be a coalition meeting at 3 p.m. Thursday in the Desmond-Fish Library, 472 Route 403, Garrison.
