The 24-hour diner reopened on Dec. 2, according to owner Nick Tsakonitis, after having been closed for about a month and a half. Following the electrical fire, the building's interior was renovated and equipment was replaced, the owner explained.
The total cost to fix the diner cost around $300,000 and the process took seven week, according to Tsakonitis. Although the cost was in the 6-figure range, Tsakonitis was able to afford it.
The 24-hour diner, which opened in 1983, has only been closed twice, the owner said, with the first time having been due to a small fire in the 1990s.
Since reopening, Tsakonitis reports that business has been good. Noting people loving the diner, the owner said “they feel like they’re home.”
The owner also reported that his diner's Santa Claus visit last Saturday had so many people that a second one has been scheduled. It is set for this coming Saturday, Dec. 20, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
Olympic Diner is at 195 Route 6, near the border with Somers.
