Do you consume a six-pack of beer or five glasses of wine in one sitting?

Nearly one-fifth of all adults in Putnam County are binge drinkers, according to a health survey, ranking that county as the 15th worst as far as excessive consumption of alcohol in New York state.

A total of 19.7 percent of Putnam's adults are believed to binge drinkers, according to this survey.

The federal government defines binge drinking as men having five or more drinks or women having four or more drinks on one occasion. The information is from the 2015 New York Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System health-related telephone survey.

Westchester County, meanwhile, ranked number 24, out of New York's 62 counties, in terms of its binge drinking rate. An estimated 17.9 percent of Westchester's adults are binge drinkers, according to the survey.

The statewide average is 17.7 percent.

Other binge drinking rates in the Hudson Valley include Dutchess at 14.6 percent and Rockland at 13.1 percent, both well below the New York state average.
