Robert Langley was elected Putnam County Sheriff defeating Don Smith, who was first elected in 2001. Langley, who won by a slim margin said voters wanted change. As Putnam County Sheriff, Langley said he intends to address the opioid crisis and implement policing.
Smith agreed to pay Levy $150,000 after he apologized for saying Levy publicly interfered in his investigation of Levy's personal trainer Alexander Hossu for raping a 13-year-old girl. Smith agreed to personally contribute $25,000 to settle the lawsuit, while the Putnam County Legislator voted to pay $125,000.
It was also revealed Smith sent letters to various government officials, including Attorney General Eric Schneidermann and Gov. Andrew Cuomo, asking them to charge Levy with illegally housing an undocumented immigrant or to take over his criminal cases.
The legal saga is not over. Levy is now seeking another $50,000 from Smith, claiming he violated the terms of their settlement agreement.
In August, the Stadium, a restaurant located on Route 9 in Garrison, announced it was closing its doors. No reason was given for the closure. The Stadium was known for having items like the first-ever Heisman Trophy, Mickey Mantle's Triple Crown Trophy, a 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers World Series ring and more.
Klein, 49, lavished the embezzled money on himself, buying yachts, jewelry, and a second home in Florida, and then failed to report any of it on his tax returns, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. He faced up to 60 years in prison time.
In August, a fox attacked a Mahopac woman then followed her into her house, causing her and her children to flee from the home, leaving the fox inside, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office said. The fox, who was euthanized, tested positive for rabies.
