Under the former law, young hunters and adults were required to wear fluorescent orange clothing while hunting. According to a memo attached to the bill, the change to allow fluorescent pink was made to draw more young women to take up the sport, said the Poughkeepsie Journal.

A similar law passed in Wisconsin, angered some female hunters who were offended by the idea, added the Poughkeepsie Journal.
