New York Proposes Changes In Hunting Seasons

DEC officials are accepting public comments on the proposed changes until Monday, June 29.

Hunting antlerless deer would be restricted in many parts of the state, including Putnam County, due to population concerns.

However, in some areas of the state such as parts of Long Island there would be regulations encouraging more antlerless deer hunting; a press release from the DEC says this is because there are too many animals in some portions of the state, which creates “unacceptable impacts” to people and area ecosystems.

The changes would include shortening the turkey hunting season two weeks, and limiting each hunter to one bird of either gender for the entire season.
