"The fact that thousands of people now have a point of access to comprehensive healthcare makes this a healthier and more inclusive world. Open Door, and the expansion of your services here and throughout Westchester, provides a wonderful example of what people can do when they work together."
Maloney then joined Open Door President and CEO Lindsay Farrell, board member Loretta Molinari and several members of the Putnam County Health Department in cutting the ribbon leading to Open Door's brand new Women's Health and Dental Health suites. Open Door Brewster is the first and only federally qualified health center providing medical, dental, women's and behavioral health care services to economically disadvantaged residents and their children in Putnam County.
Open Door serves as a medical home for this most vulnerable and previously underserved population, the majority of whom live at 200 percent or below the federal poverty level. It provides health care to people regardless of insurance status or ability to pay.
Despite the substantial gains made in health coverage due to the Affordable Care Act, many residents of Putnam remain uninsured or underinsured. Over 40 percent of Open Door's patients are uninsured. By virtue of language, culture and socioeconomic factors, these families are often isolated from healthcare and other essential services.
