DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. - Two Dutchess County men already convicted of various other offenses have pleaded guilty to their roles in the fatal shooting of 21-year-old Shameik Floyd in Poughkeepsie.

The Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office announced this week that Poughkeepsie residents Kaheem Cummings, 24, and Trent Yant, 23, have pleaded guilty in the fatal June 2015 shooting.

Cummings pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon. He will be sentenced to 30 years, which will run consecutively along the 20-year-to-life sentence he received after pleading guilty last year to shooting and killing another man on State Street in July 2015.

Yant pleaded guilty to first-degree robbery. He will be sentenced to a term of 15 years in prison, which will run consecutively to his current sentence for a different robbery he pleaded guilty to in 2015.

According to police, at approximately 9:40 p.m. on June 30, 2015, Shameik Floyd was found dead in the street near 200 Mansion Street with a gunshot wound to his head. He would die from those wounds later that day.

Police said that the Detective Bureau launched an investigation into the shooting with an assist from the Dutchess County District Attorney’s Office and the New York State Department of Corrections Office of Special Investigations Criminal Intelligence Division, which led them to Cummings and Yant after nearly two years.

Sentencing for both Cummings and Yant is scheduled for next month.
