The gallery debuted its new show, with artwork featuring the color red, on Feb. 15 and it will be running it through March 29.

The show features artists from throughout the region, including four from Putnam. The gallery often has shows where artists create work around a theme.

Gallery owner Jeremy Wolff thought red would be a good fit, signifying Valentine's Day and the end of winter.

"It's one of our fun themes," Wolff said. "Red is fairly straightforward, so we wanted to see how artists interpret it."

As a relatively small gallery, Wolff selected artwork from 23 artists and asked them to pay what they could to have their art shown.

"We want the gallery to have a professional look and not be too crowded," Wolff said.

Wolff said running a gallery can be a difficult business, especially in a quiet location like Patterson. The Front Street Cafe next door recently closed, adding more strain.

The gallery opened five years ago, with Wolff as on of four partners, though he is now the last one still involved with the gallery.

"There's a community aspect to the gallery," Wolff said. "We want to have grown up conversations about art. In this area people really appreciate that. You see something you haven't expected to see and you want to have it on your wall. It's a great feeling to want to own something."

Wolff said he thinks people will be surprised by the quality of the artwork and the presentation.

"It really looks professional," Wolff said. "Our local artists are doing some surprisingly interesting work. Artists will realize they are not the only ones out there and that people appreciate their work."

Stephen Rose, a Cold Spring resident, is one of the artists featured in the show. Rose said he works with oils in an intuitive manner, painting with his hands.

"I have been a landscape painter and enjoy the sense of infinity that I find in the landscape," Rose said. "But I find my current approach allows a fuller expression of that infinity."
