PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. -- Though it may be a little farther from New York City's bustling entertainment scene, Putnam County is home to a number of celebrities.
Putnam County is a desirable location for the rich and famous with large luxury properties and scenic views, paired with small-town charm. And it's all right nearby one of the country's largest media hubs: New York City.
Putnam Valley boasts, by far, the highest number of famous residents, serving as a home to musicians, actors and TV personalities.
Jazz musician Adam Levy grew up on Lake Oscawana in Putnam Valley, along with actor Roy Scheider of "Jaws" fame.
Putnam Valley is also the birthplace of Tom Welling, best known for his role as Clark Kent in the TV show "Smallville."
Composer David Amram has lived in Putnam Valley, along with Grammy Award-winning music producer Jim Steinman.
Lauded German sex therapist Dr. Ruth Westheimer, known simply as "Dr. Ruth," also lives in Putnam Valley.
Carmel, Garrison and Patterson also have claims to fame.
Actress Jane Alexander, who now lives in Dobbs Ferry, called Carmel home for many years.
Facebook cofounder Chris Hughes lives with his husband Sean Eldridge in Garrison. The two wedded at their home there in 2012. Their wedding was profiled in Business Insider's, "The 12 Most Over-The-Top Weddings In Tech."
Late folk singer and environmental activist Peter Seeger, who died on Jan. 27, lived in Patterson, as did the late Elizabeth Victoria Montgomery, who was best known for her starring role in "Bewitched."
I'm sure we missed some of Putnam's famous residents. What stars do you call your neighbors?
