Putnam Pays Tribute to First Responders

PUTMAN, N.Y. -- In remembrance of 9/11, the Putnam Communities That Care Coalition and NCADD Putnam sponsored an opportunity for the Putnam community to write “thank you” letters to first responders, uniformed service men/women, veterans, police officers and firefighters to thank them for their dedicated service.

More than 300 notes were written.

Leslie Fine’s English classes at Brewster High School took the opportunity to thank their heroes, as did Girl Scout troops in Carmel and the CYO boys from St. John’s Parish in Mahopac.

Additionally, a number of local residents stopped by Cornerstone Park to jot a “thank you” to the county's first responders.

“These men and women put their life on the line every day, so to take a few minutes out of our day to thank them is the least we can do,” said Kristin McConnell, executive director of NCADD Putnam.
