Putnam Republicans File Complaint Over Democratic Campaign Donations

PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. -- Officials from the Putnam County Republican Committee have asked the state Board of Election to investigate allegations of Democrats using a county committee to improperly exceed donation limits to fund several senate races, according to the New York Daily News.

Anthony Scannapieco Jr. filed the complaint with the Board of Elections on Thursday, saying the Friends of Terry Gipson and Friends of Justin Wagner both solicited or received donations that exceed the $10,300 limit, the Daily News reported.

Scannapieco referenced an earlier report from the Daily News that the county's Democratic Committee had accepted nine donations totaling $452,000 in two days despite not having received a donation larger than $1,000 in the last 15 years, the Daily News said.

“This is hypocritical flailing from a candidate funded lock, stock, and barrel by NYC millionaires," Steve Napier, Campaign Manager for Justin Wagner said in a statement. "If Terrence Murphy is looking for a candidate whose campaign has been bought and paid for by outside special interests, and who will be a disaster for Hudson Valley taxpayers, all he needs to do is look in the mirror.”
