Deputy Sheriff Alexander Ruhe responded to a report of a property damage automobile accident at the intersection of Route 311 and I-84 in Patterson at 1:03 p.m. Wednesday.
The deputy determined that one of the involved drivers, identified as Ortiz, 43, of Eastern Road, Putnam Valley, had a suspended license. The deputy arrested Ortiz and charged him with third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, a misdemeanor.
The defendant was processed at the scene and released on his own recognizance pending a future appearance in Patterson Justice Court to answer the charge, sheriffs said.
If found guilty, the defendant could face up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000, the sheriff said.
