The volunteers, decked out in safety vests with plenty of garbage bags donated by the Putnam County Highway Department and the Putnam County Health Department, spent an entire day making sure the area was ready for spring.

"It was a great day. We had many volunteers who participated and worked hard. The cleanliness of our community speaks to how residents and visitors view us. We encourage residents and volunteers to get involved to make Putnam Valley a cleaner, greener place to call home. Clean streets are a community effort," said County Legislator Bill Gouldman.

The litter collected included bottles, bottle caps, plastic bags, wrappers, straws, cigarette butts and even a plastic Santa Clause.

"The whole day was a massive success and a big thank you goes out to the volunteers for joining forces with us this year and creating a very successful clean up," said Gouldman.

Residents who did not have an opportunity to participate, and are interested in cleaning up an area individually, or putting together a team, should email Gouldman at William.Gouldman@putnamcountyny.gov with the location and number of people that will be helping out. He will make sure you get the proper equipment to do the job.
