In an interview with Daily Voice at his campaign office, Gipson in Wappingers Falls, who is running for a second term in the 41st Senate District, against Dutchess County Legislator Sue Serino, said he supports the gun control legislation.

"The NY Safe Act is doing a very good job of providing extra safeguards for those who live in our communities, making our families stronger and safer," Gipson said.

Gipson said the law puts stricter penalties on those who commit domestic violence and harsher sentences on those who sell drugs.

"These are all things my opponent would like to repeal," Gibson said. "I believe that these are good measures we put in place with the Safe Act that we must absolutely protect."

As County Legislator, Serino supported legislation opposing the Safe Act.

"Our personal freedoms are under assault from big government in Washington and Albany," Serino said. "I won't compromise our constitutional rights."

The 41st Senate District covers parts of Putnam and Dutchess counties.
