During the campaign, the New York State Police targeted drivers using handheld devices when behind the wheel, police said. Troopers also were on the look-out for distracted or impaired drivers, those not properly buckled up or violating the “Move Over Law,” police said.
Statewide, a total of 2,752 tickets were issued for cell-phone use and texting, as well as 5,557 for speeding and 187 for driving while intoxicated, police said.
