State Police Issue Thousands Of Tickets In Distracted-Driving Detail

PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. -- New York State Police issued more than 17,000 tickets throughout the state, including in Putnam. during a distracted driving enforcement campaign from April 10 through April 15, according to officials.

During the campaign, the New York State Police targeted drivers using handheld devices when behind the wheel, police said.   Troopers also were on the look-out for distracted or impaired drivers, those not properly buckled up or violating the “Move Over Law,” police said. 

Statewide, a total of 2,752 tickets were issued for cell-phone use and texting, as well as 5,557 for speeding and 187 for driving while intoxicated, police said.
