County Executive MaryEllen Odell officially opened the row, which is alongside Lake Gleneida in Carmel.

“Putnam County is the best county in the world for veterans and when this lady (Odell) became County Executive, I wouldn’t have believed it could become even a better county for veterans, but it has,” Veterans Service Agency Director Karl Rohde said in a news release.

Rohde led the group in a moment of silence before introducing Odell as a keynote speaker.

She discussed her third Honor Flight experience last weekend to Washington, D.C. During that trip, Odell accompanied World War II veteran Victor Paolantonio, 92, of Ossining, for visits to World War II memorials and Arlington National Cemetery.

“It’s an honor and privilege to be County Executive in a county that is so truly patriotic,” Odell said in a press release.

“We are grateful for our freedoms and we are grateful for our veterans.”

The 2014 Veteran’s Day Row of Honor is the fourth row erected in the county since Memorial Day 2013.

Flags to help fund special veterans’ projects can be purchased for $100 each through the county’s Veterans Service Agency. For more information, call 845-808-1620.
