State police released details of the incident that resulted in the hours-long closure of a stretch of northbound I-95 in Westchester that left motorists in stopped traffic for hours.

At approximately 5:49 p.m., the state police responded to a reported motor vehicle collision that occurred between Exit 18B and 19.

Troopers arrived on scene and located an adult male who appeared to have suffered serious injuries including gunshot wounds.

The victim was transported to Jacobi Medical Center, where he is listed in critical condition.

The incident caused the closure of I-95 while a lengthy investigation occurred. The lanes were opened around 10 p.m.
