The paper said it acquired the video of the July 3 incident through a Freedom Of Information Law request to the Putnam County's District Attorney's Office.

Former county Sheriff Investigator Pat Castaldo has been charged with a felony and two misdemeanors related to the incident, according to the Examiner.

Kenneth Defreitas, a suspect on burglary charges, was the victim of the alleged brutality. Defreitas tried to grab the holster and weapon of Gerald Schramek, a former sheriff investigator, the Examiner said.

The Putnam County Legislature approved a $35,000 settlement to Defreitas, who is planning to sue the county for civil rights violations, according to the Examiner.
