An investigation revealed that a 2015 Kia Sportage, operated by 57-year-old Nancy Sullivan, of Papua, New Guinea, was traveling northbound on the Taconic when it exited the roadway and struck a rock embankment, police said.
Sullivan was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three children in the vehicle, ages 5, 8, and 10, also of New Guinea, were airlifted to Westchester Medical Center. Two of the children are listed in critical condition; the third is listed as stable.
A fifth passenger in the vehicle, 43-year-old Skudy Bangan, of New Guinea, was transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation and additional information may be released as it becomes available, police said.
