YORKTOWN, N.Y. -- The Cordovas in Yorktown would like nothing more than to see their dog Zero again.

Zero, a 4-year-old German shepherd and chow chow mix was last seen on Ridge Street and Van Cortlandt Circle on Dec. 10, the night he ran away from home.

Zero has a rusty/reddish base coat with a black winter coat and weighs 47 lbs. He has several purple spots on his tongue with a blue collar and name tag.

"He was loose in front of our house," Melissa Cordova said. "By the time we went to look for him, he was gone. We've been searching every night and all of our free time. We haven't been able to find him at all."

The Cordovas have had Zero, named for a character from "The Nightmare Before Christmas," his whole life.

"He's kind of a dopey dog," Cordova said. "He gets excited very quickly. He loves to nuzzle up to you. He's a very sweet dog, but he's fearful of balloons and loud noises. We really miss him, we hope we find him soon before it snows."

Zero was adopted from a Paws 4 Love Adoption Drive. Cordova said it would be the best thing ever to find Zero.

"It's been really hard looking for him knowing it's so cold," Cordova said. "We know he may have gotten hit by a car and that we might find him lying on the side of the road."

Earlier this year, another dog in the family passed away after 14 years.

"It's a lot to deal with," Cordova said. "Family pets become family members."
