To the Editor:

Who is really behind the Crossroads proposal?   In articles relating to Crossroads 312, attention has been focused on Harold Lepler as the engine that is driving this development. That is not exactly so. The real conductors are the Hogans and/or specifically attorney John "Jay" Hogan, protege of Lepler. That relationship goes far toward understanding the vehemence and frantic nature of the letter written by "Jay's" brother, Jim Hogan and cited on the Patch.   In draft environmental statement-required documents, the cover of the volume lists the following: Crossroads 312 LLC and JPH Development Corporation c/o Covington Corp.as applicants. BTW, JPH are the initials for John Patrick Hogan. Documents submitted to the New York state Department of Corporations list Crossroads and JPH as Hogan & Rossi at their Route 22 offices. Covington has been long known as a Lepler/Nadel business entity.

And so behind the scenes, Mr. Hogan and his brother have worked mightily and diligently ascertaining zoning change approval and master plan revision for the project, going so far as Jim Hogan impugning the patriotism of Town Board members in opposition to the project and threatening those up for election -- Alvarez, Hay and Eckardt  -- with Republican retaliation at the polls. This is all a family affair.   Mr. Lepler has been known for his behind-the-scenes good works, and what good work to end his career than giving a boost to one of his proteges, guiding him through the brambles and thorns of the development process and gifting him with a piece of the action? Mr. Lepler has my grudging admiration.   Ann Fanizzi, town of Southeast resident.
