20-Year-Old Caught Trying To Cash Forged Check In Wappinger, Police Say

DUTCHESS COUNTY, N.Y. - A 20-year-old woman is facing felony charges after state police say she attempted to cash a forged check.

An investigation revealed that Cassandra Smaine of the Bronx attempted to cash the check at a bank branch in the Town of Wappinger in May of 2016 and fled prior to police arrival, according to police.

Smaine was charged with identity theft in the first degree and criminal possession of a forged instrument in the second degree, both Class D felonies.

Smaine was arraigned at the Town of Wappinger Court, and she was released on bond pending a future court appearance.
