Anny Castillo, who is facing charges of abandonment of a child under the age of 6 years, risk of injury, and cruelty to persons, rejected the plea deal on Friday, the News Times reported. The plea deal would have involved prison time, though it is unclear how much prison time was included, according to the News Times.

At around 11:30 p.m. on May 21, police responded to the Polla Supermarket on Main Street in Danbury, where they found the abandoned newborn wrapped in several pieces of women's clothing. The baby was admitted to the neonatal care unit at Danbury Hospital, while police searched for the mother.

Eventually, Castillo came forward and identified herself as the baby's mother, and she was arrested in July, according to police.

Castillo told police that she had met the baby's father on Facebook, and that he was the only one who knew she was pregnant, according to the News Times. She said that she wasn't aware of the state's Safe Haven laws, which allows parents to drop off newborns at hospitals with no questions asked, the News Times reported.

Castillo's attorney had sought a mental health evaluation before the plea deal was offered, and is expected to move forward with that request, according to the News Times. Castillo's case has been moved to the court's supervisory pre-trial docket, according to the News Times.
