DWI Route 202 Driver Strikes Fire Hydrant, Yorktown Police Say

A 21-year-old Yorktown man was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated after striking a fire hydrant on Crompond Road and Old Yorktown Road Saturday.

David Valez was charged with driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, driving while intoxicated with a BAC of .08 percent or more, a misdemeanor and leaving the scene of a property damage auto accident, a violation.

At 2:45 a.m., a Yorktown police officer observed a black Acura strike a fire hydrant before fleeing the scene, police said. The officer pulled over the vehicle and determined Valez was intoxicated, police said. He was brought back to police headquarters where a breathalyzer test was administered.

Valez was released on his own recognizance and is due back in court on Nov. 7.
