A 33-year-old man was charged with drug possession on Monday after getting into a verbal dispute at the BP Gas Station in Carmel, according to Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith.

Michael Kopilak, who now lives in the state of Florida, was arrested around 5 p.m.after Sheriff’s Deputies Keith Simone and Shane Rossiter responded to a report of a verbal dispute at the BP Gas Station at 2 Fair St. in Carmel, said Capt. William McNamara.

While conducting an investigation at the scene, Simone discovered that Kopilak was in possession of the prescription drug Suboxone, for which he did not have a valid prescription, police said.

Kopilak was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance. He is being held in the Putnam County Jail lieu of $1,500 cash bail or $3,000 bail bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday, Aug. 7.
