MOUNT KISCO, N.Y. -- The death of a man whose body was found in a wooded Mount Kisco area on Sunday has been ruled a homicide, Westchester County Department of Public Safety Commissioner George Longworth told reporters at a Monday briefing.

The cause was determined based on a blunt-force trauma to the man's body and was obtained from an autopsy by the Westchester County Medical Examiner's office, Longworth said.

Longworth declined to get into specifics about the man's injury or comment on whether he sustained other injuries.

The commissioner identified the man as 53-year-old Jose Sanchez, adding that he had no permanent address.

Longworth told reporters that it is believed a perpetrator and Sanchez knew each other. However, he said there were multiple suspects and that they may have left the state.

The commissioner noted that people in the community should not be worried.

“We don’t believe that there’s any cause for concern in the community,” Longworth said.

County police detectives are working on the case and pursuing leads, Longworth noted. He also believes that charges will be brought soon.

“We also feel confident that we’ll be able to bring charges in the coming days."

Sanchez's body was found by a female relative who knew that he frequented the area to socialize, Longworth said; the location is near Lieto Drive. The commissioner declined to say how the woman is related to Sanchez because she is considered a witness.

Sanchez had worked in landscaping in northern Westchester, Longworth said, but police are not aware of his most recent employment status.

Longworth said that anyone with information in connection with the case can call a hotline at 1-800-898-TIPS.
