Police said that they have recently received a number of reports regarding residents’ cars being searched overnight, with some items stolen. All of the vehicles were reportedly left unlocked by the homeowners.

The cases are currently under investigation. The alert comes on the heels of several Hudson Valley law enforcement agencies enacting a “9 p.m. Routine,” where they issue warnings each night on social media, reminding residents to lock up their valuables to prevent such incidents.

“We recommend locking your home at all times, as well as your vehicles, even if your vehicle is parked in the driveway,” officials noted, saying that if anyone spots something suspicious, they should contact police immediately by calling (914) 271-5177.
