MAHOPAC, N.Y. -- By 10:30 a.m. Sunday, the Mahopac Volunteer Fire Department and its friends were ready for business and waiting to see the people of their fire district turnout for the annual open house.
The warm and sunny weather brought people to fire headquarters by the scores. Mahopac fire equipment ringed the property as firehouse friends filled the interior.
The New York State Police brought in the Rollover Simulator, and Wiltsie, the bloodhound, and Trooper Fran, the K-9 handler were real crowd pleasers during the event.
Carmel Police Officer Brian Shay was on hand to help parents with the installation of infant and child car seats and to stress how important it is for the child's safety. The Mohegan Fire Department brought up its Fire Safety House, something many schoolchildren have gone through.
Other events included the Putnam County Sheriff's Department demonstrations of lake patrol and K-9 unit handler Deputy Dalo with Dunkin. The American Red Cross had displays explaining its role in the event of emergency by providing aid and support to victims of fire and natural disaster.
The MFVFD Dive Team, the only dive team in Putnam County, was also on hand to explain its role in countywide response to all water-related emergencies, search and recovery.
But the main attraction, was the MFVFD employees with all chiefs present, as were the commissioners and the members themselves.
