Mahopac Traffic Stop Leads To Drug Charge

PUTNAM COUNTY, N.Y. --  A Cortlandt Manor man was busted for possession of drugs after he was stopped on Wednesday, Feb. 22 for a traffic violation in Mahopac, said Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith.

Michael Power, 35, was spotted by Deputy Sheriff Jonathan Irwin on Route 6 around 8:30 a.m., driving with an expired inspection certificate, said Capt. William McNamara.

During the stop, Irwin discovered that Power was in possession of OxyContin, without a valid prescription, McNamara added.

The deputy arrested Power and charged him with criminal possession of a controlled substance. He was also cited for the expired inspection infraction, McNamara said.

Power was released on his own recognizance pending a future court date in the Town of Carmel Justice Court.
