Patrick Murphy, 27, is accused of repeatedly stabbing another man with a knife around 10 a.m. at a residence on Route 311 in Patterson, said Capt. William McNamara.

McNamara said deputies found a 60-year-old man bleeding heavily from multiple wounds to his torso when they arrived at the home after receiving a 911 call about a physical altercation between two men.

With the victim were his girlfriend, his daughter, and his infant granddaughter, police said.

The victim and the other adults present told deputies that Murphy had stabbed the victim. At that point, Murphy exited from inside the residence and was apprehended, McNamara said.

Patterson EMS transported the man to Danbury Hospital, where he underwent emergency surgery.

Investigators charged Murphy with attempted murder in the second degree and assault in the first degree, criminal possession of a weapon and endangering the welfare of a child. The child endangerment offense was charged because the alleged violence occurred in front of the victim’s infant granddaughter, McNamara said.

Murphy is being held without bail at the Putnam County Jail. If found guilty of the attempted murder and assault charges, he could face up to 25 years in prison.
