An unidentified man was killed early Monday morning in a fiery one-car crash on I-84 in Kent.

The crash occurred around 2 a.m. on the eastbound side west of Route 311 in the area of mile post marker 61.2.

An investigation revealed that the vehicle exited the roadway for an unknown reason via the northern shoulder, state police said.

The vehicle traveled approximately 60 feet into the median and came to rest after striking a rock cut and a tree. The vehicle subsequently caught fire following the impact of the crash.

The driver, a 58-year-old East Longmeadow, Mass., man, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Also responding to the crash site were Lake Carmel Fire Department, EMStar, and the Putnam County Coroner Dr. Daniel Stephens.
