Man Nabbed With Illegal Handgun, Drugs In Traffic Stop Near Putnam

A traffic stop on Route 9 in Fishkill led to a felony weapons charge for a man in possession of a loaded handgun illegally.

New York State Police troopers from the Wappinger barracks stopped 21-year-old Fort Worth, Texas resident Dorian Mitchell shortly after 10 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 27 when they spotted his car had an illegal tint.

During the subsequent stop on Route 9, near Schuyler Boulevard, Mitchell was found to be in possession of a loaded 9mm handgun and a small quantity of marijuana.

Mitchell was arrested and charged with a felony count of criminal possession of a weapon and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation. He was arraigned in the Town of East Fishkill Court and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 bond. Mitchel is due back in the Village of Fishkill Court on Nov. 2 to answer the charges.
