Daniel Kriz of Wingdale, was sentenced for his conviction of felony first-degree criminal contempt, said Tendy.

As a result of Kriz’s abusive conduct toward his former girlfriend, an order of protection was issued on her behalf against Kriz that included a “no contact” provision.  Ignoring the court's order, Kriz continued to harass his victim causing her to fear for her safety, he said.

In response, Investigator John Kerwick of the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office performed an intensive investigation, which ended with Kriz being arrested and incarcerated, said Tendy.

Tendy said when he took over the office, he restructured it so every employee understood the difficulties and differences of handling domestic violence cases.

Following Kritz's arrest, Assistant District Attorney Laura Roberts worked closely with Kerwick and District Attorney’s Special Victim Investigator Jaemie Caban to ensure the victim was safe and Kriz was held accountable for his abusive conduct, the DA's office said.

“Often, by the time a victim of domestic violence contacts the police, there has been a lengthy history of abuse," said Tendy. "We strive to let our victims know that their voices are heard, and we will work with all our multi-disciplinary partners to make sure victims are safe and their needs are addressed while holding their abusers accountable."
